Story Structure in Graphic Novels — Maus

Love stories between a man and a woman, two friends, father and son, etcetera are always about people who enrich each other’s lives, yet find it difficult to be with one another.

That difficulty could be the idea that they are just friends (When Harry Met Sally), that college is on the horizon and they don’t want to admit that it’ll hurt to be separated (Superbad), or in the case of Maus, that getting intimate means actually dealing with the parts we don’t like about each other.

To see how Maus works as a three-act story, visit here: Maus Story Structure.

(Spoiler Alert: If you have not read Maus, yet, I will be discussing the entire story — both parts 1 and 2.)
